Joanne I. Schmatz, 81, of Mishawaka, died on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:15 PM.  She was born April 3, 1937 in Dunkirk, New York.  Joanne married Philip Schmatz and he preceded her in death in November of 1987.  She belonged to Queen of Peace Catholic Church and was a lifelong devoted and active Catholic parishioner.  Joanne worked at Modular Plastics in Elkhart as an office clerk for many years.  Joanne loved to cook and spoil the grandkids and her greatest joy were the meals and family gatherings she hosted-especially during the holidays.  She and Phillip always put great emphasis on their son's education and encouraged them in many ways.  She loved sports-Notre Dame, Chicago Cubs- and always enjoyed watching all of her sons and grandchildren playing various sports.  Joanne was always there, whether helping with rides to and from practices, buying treats afterwards, and clipping newspaper articles.  She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Lori) Schmatz, William (Patti) Schmatz, and Robert (Cindy) Schmatz; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Diane (Ron) Millonzi.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; her son, Philip; and a sister Sally Romance.  Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 12-2 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN  46561 with a funeral service in Joanne's honor beginning at 2 PM.  Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
