John L. Kedik, age 84, of Mishawaka, passed away December 30, 2009 at Hospice House of St. Joseph County. John was born October 31, 1925 to the late Charles W. and Margaret (Illowsei) Kedik in Mishawaka, Indiana.

John was a graduate of Mishawaka High School, class of 1943. Following graduation, John enlisted in the U. S. Army. John served in the 777th Tank Battalion in the European Theatre during World War II, until his honorable discharge in 1946. On January 17, 1948, John married the former Ms. Lillian Hernitz at St. Stephen Catholic Church in South Bend. They celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage.

Lillian of Mishawaka, survives, along with their children; John T. Kedik of Mishawaka, Susan (Paul) Rambow-Petgen of Osceola, Jane (Larry) Matz of Lakeville, and Lynne (R. Joe) Ness of Logansport, Indiana. Also surviving are their grandchildren; George, Geoff and Jen Rambow, Lana Marchioni, Joe, Tyler and Monika Ness. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Logan and Gwen Marchioni and Lilli Rambow. John is also survived by his brothers; Mike (Dorothy) Kedik and Jim (Judy) Kedik, both of South Bend, and his sisters, Anna Ewald and Marge Armstrong, both of Mishawaka, Alice (Richard) Washburn of Indianapolis, and Mary Jane (Bob) Hood of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Kedik Jr. and his grandson, Jason John Rambow.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the noon Mass at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka on Monday, January 4, 2009. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements, and interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

John was employed as a supervisor for 35 years at the Torrington Company (a division of Ingersoll-Rand) until the company left the area in 1982. He then was employed by Haberle Machines until his retirement at the age of 70.

John was known to many as "Gentleman John" and enjoyed playing golf. During his numerous outings he had scored two "hole in one''s" and taught his grandsons to play the game. John also enjoyed "tinkering" around the house and watching his grandsons play sports. Ever the family man, John''s granddaughters had him "wrapped" around their little fingers. He and his wife Lillian retired as Eucharistic Ministers at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, of which he was a member.
