Judith Anne “Judy” Guard, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born on December 31, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, Judy was the beloved daughter of the late Paul William Hazen and Wanda Maxine (Burkholder) Hazen. She grew up in Osceola and Mishawaka, Indiana, where she attended Mishawaka High School and graduated with the Class of 1958.

Judy dedicated her professional life serving as a school secretary and later a para-professional for Elkhart Community Schools. She found great fulfillment in helping students and supporting educators.Judy adored traveling and was very lucky and proud to have visited every State in the U.S. Her experiences traveling broadened her mind and her compassion for others.

Judy was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church and spoke fondly of her church community often.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Bruce W. Guard, Jr. (Sharon Gillis) and Gretchen K. Guard (Jim Plassard), along with extended family members and many friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and welcoming spirit. Judy valued her close friendships that were forged and kept for decades. She never met a stranger and would share encouragement or bestow a compliment at every opportunity. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
