Obituary

Kathleen Gayle Bontrager, age 58, of Osceola, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at Elkhart General Hospital following a brief illness. Kathy was born September 23, 1951 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Paul and Geneva (Tabler) Funkhouser. Kathy was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1969-1970. She was employed for 21 years as an ATM Clerk by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. On June 27, 2000, Kathy was united in marriage to Mr. Al Bontrager.
Al survives, along with five step children, Marc Bontrager of Nappanee, Debbie Ellison of Niles, MI, Janice Libby of Sturgis, MI, Nicole Wilson of Elkhart, and Heidi Tack of Elkhart, as well as 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Geneva Funkhouser of South Bend, and two sisters, Paula (Roger) Kline of South Bend, and Deborah S. Ganshorn of Elkhart, Indiana. Cheryl is also survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul, her sister Cheryl Funkhouser and her niece, Penni Renee Kline.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Monday, December 21, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home at 1:00 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Kathy was very involved with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews programs through school. She and her husband Al enjoyed traveling and attending country music concerts, especially in Branson, Missouri. Kathy was also fond of her "baby" dog, Lady. In her memory, contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
