Obituary

Keith E. Shaffer, 77, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 in Elkhart General Hospital. Keith was born on October 24, 1932 in Walkerton to the late Harry and Pearl (Floyd) Shaffer.
Keith is survived by three children, Keith L. Shaffer of Elkhart, Angela (Andy) Souders of Elkhart and Jerry (Monica) Stevenson of Mauldin, SC; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Wendell (Faye) Shaffer of Elkhart.
His father passed way when he was two years old and his mother when he was 20. She married Robert O. Nusbaum, who was his beloved stepfather and is now deceased. He attended Concord High School his freshman year and then transferred to Millersburg High School, where he graduated in 1951. He participated in all sports and received letters for them as well. Keith lived with Ellis and Betty Rink while attending high school. They were to him as adopted parents.

He joined the U.S. Navy, where he attended a diesel machines school in Sand Diego, CA as an enginemen. He was assigned to the USS Seminal AKA104 during the Korean Conflict. He was in two invasion of Korea in 1952 aboard the ship, which landed troops and motor vehicles.
Keith worked in the RV Industry as a salesman for several suppliers for a total of 48 years. He was a member of the Meadowood Free Methodist Church, Elkhart and the D.A.V. Chapter 19, Elkhart. He loved to bowl, hunt, and spend time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 pm in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 16, 2010 in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
