Kenneth Earl Eckert, Jr.

Elkhart – Kenneth Earl Eckert, Jr, 84, passed away at 1:50am on Thursday, April 16, 2020 in his home.
Ken was born in LaPorte County at his grandpa and grandma's Ira Bennitt's one room school house. It sat on SR 2 until it was demolished for road expansion. He was the New Carlisle paperboy and was a Boy Scout. He played in the New Carlisle School Band on the Kettle Drums, as his 3 other sibling played different instruments.
He used to walk along the railroad tracks into South Bend to watch the movies. He also thought he could fly, and jumped off the out house roof with an umbrella and broke his collar bone.
He met his sweetheart, Leona (Marks) at a Church Social. They were married on a very hot day on 3 rd of July 1955 in Elkhart County near Wakarusa. They both served 1W service in Ohio at West Liberty Children's home in Ohio for one year and at a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
He worked at Holiday Rambler in Wakarusa, IN and worked on President Eisenhower's personal house trailer. He then retired after 40 years at Elkhart Products.
Ken and Leona had two children Linda (Travis) Casper and Daniel Eckert; two grandchildren, Katlin and Joseph Eckert. Ken has two brothers Albert (Merlyn) Eckert of Bedford, IN and John (Ruby) Mast of Fort Wayne, IN.
He is joining his sweetheart, parents, sister, Enid and so many family and friends waiting on the other side of the veil.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when the pandemic is lifted. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
