South Bend – Kimberly Irene Cole, 58, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2026.

Kimberly was born on June 20, 1968, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Jerry Barrier Sr. and the late Gisela Stopczynski. She was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1986.

Kimmi is survived by her son, Joseph (Rebekah) Cole; her grandchildren, Greyson and Paityn; her father, Jerry (Charlotte) Barrier Sr.; her siblings, Deborah (Dan) Smogor, Melissa Barrier, Jerry Barrier, and Jennifer Rutledge; her life partner, Jim Cole; her stepchildren and step-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family was an important part of Kimmi’s life. Her son and her grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was especially excited about the newest grandchild on the way and looked forward to the day she would meet her. She treasured the memories she made with her family and those closest to her.

Kimmi had a green thumb and especially enjoyed caring for her plants. She adored her cat, Squeeze, and loved to read. She also enjoyed cooking Southern food, carrying on the recipes and traditions taught to her by her late grandmother, Irene Barrier. She shared her family’s love of music, something that was woven throughout her life and the memories they made together. She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her and will be deeply missed.

Kimmi’s family will honor her life with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. Details will be shared when arrangements have been made.
