Larry D. Calvin, age 71 died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his residence in South Bend. Larry was born Aug. 31, 1941 to the late Frank and May Elizabeth (Ganser) Calvin. He enlisted in the US Army in 1961, and was honorably discharged after serving as a tank operator in Germany in 1965.
Surviving are his children, Angela (Rich) Thornton of Osceola, and Jon (Helen) Calvin of Mishawaka. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) Thornton, Kody (Fiance Koral Likes) Thornton, Zachary,Hannah, Arianna and Michael Calvin, and his great granddaughter, Aggie Rose Thornton. Larry is also survived by his brother Roy (Jeanie) Calvin of Warsaw.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 3:00 pm funeral service on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola.
Larry was employed for many years in maintenance, and retired in 2006 from Healthwin Hospital in South Bend. Larry loved to bowl, and in 1985 rolled his first perfect game. He collected model cars, and had previously worked with the pit crew for Bob Morgan. His favorite NASCAR driver was Mark Martin. Larry was a member of the American Legion as well.
