Larry R. Ward, 69, of Mishawaka, passed away at 11:51 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Larry was born on April 8, 1942 in South Bend, the son of the late Clifford S. and Esther L. (Hamilton) Ward. On July 29, 1967, he married Janet Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janet; two children, Beth Ann Ward and Steven (Jen) Ward, both of Mishawaka, and two grandchildren, Emily and Ethan. He is also survived by brother in law, Joe Barhydt of Woodland, IN. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Deloris Barhydt, Jean Blair, and Marylou Amadore and brother, Donald Ward.
Larry is a lifetime area resident, graduating from Penn High School in 1961. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He also worked for many years in the Mishawaka Post Office, before retiring from there. He attended Grace Community Church, Mishawaka and was very active in the 4-H, as well as the Booster Club. He loved being involved in the South Bend Civil Patrol and together, he and his wife, took care of foster children for close to 20 years.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Monday, December 26, 2011 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
