LaVern H. Werner, 67, of Elkhart died Thursday March 3, 2011 at home. The Ypsilanti native was born August 25, 1943 to Harold L. and Elizabeth M. (McCorkle) Werner. LaVern graduated from White Pidgeon HS in the Class of 1962 and was the owner of Werner Painting in Elkhart for over 40 years. A member of Victory Chapel General Baptist Church, he enjoyed writing poetry, was a playwright for productions at the church and also enjoyed golf, hunting & fishing. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis J. Werner; son, Aaron Werner of Elkhart; daughter, Kelly (Edward) Fields of Adkins, TX; son, Kevin (Kathy) Werner of Glasgow, KY; son, Gregory (Hilaria) Werner of Tucson, AZ; son, William (Linda) Richey of South Bend; daughter, Madonna (Johnnie) McKelvey of Mishawaka; daughter, Ginger (Mark) Creiger of Syracuse; sister, Reva (Ron) Smith of Roland, OK; brother, Gary (Linda) Werner of York, PA; sister, Karen (Joe) Martinez of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon Harrison and brother, William Werner. Funeral Services 10:00 Tuesday March 8, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call Monday 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
