Lawrence J. Britton, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday October 18, 2010 at 11:40 am in the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. He was born January 28, 1921 in Mishawaka to the late Verne and Ethelyn (Jones) Britton.
Lawrence married Alice-Mary Nichols on December 11, 1954, resided on Lincoln Way West, Mishawaka for 44 years. They moved to Pine Island Florida until Alice-Mary passed away in February 2001. Then he returned to Mishawaka and lived in Cambridge Square. Passing before him were his brothers Herbert and Raymond and sister Iris.
Lawrence is survived by daughter Beth A Britton (Lori Rozewicz) of Mishawaka and son Verne L Britton (Cris) of Morgantown WV, and sister Ardeth (Ted) of Ringgold, GA.
Lawrence loved to listen to classical music and enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and was an avid reader. He served in the Navy during WWII and was at Pearl Harbor, he was a member of the VFW Post #360, Moose Lodge in Elkhart, and a member of Mishawaka High School Alumni. He rode in the Memorial Day parade past 3 years representing the Class of 1940.
Lawrence retired from AEP (I & M Electric) in 1983 after which he worked as a courier for H & R Block during tax seasons while Alice-Mary operated the H & R Block office in New Carlisle.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 22, 2010 in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
