Obituary

Lawrence E. 'Larry' Pratt, age 70, of Granger, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Elkhart General Hospital after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born November 29, 1939 in Toledo Ohio to the late Dewey and Gladys (Boatman) Pratt. Larry was also preceded by his foster parents, William and Mildred Egert. On March 21, 1988, Larry married Karen Brennan in Elkhart, Indiana.
Karen survives, along with his son, Larry (Jayne) Pratt Jr. of Leesville, Louisiana and his daughter, Helen (Charles) Baker of Lehigh Acres, Florida. Also surviving is his step-son Chris (Catherine) Brennan of Atlanta, Georgia and step-daughters, Lisa (Scott) Asbury, Lori (Steve) Huddleston, and Julie (Shawn) Wagner, all of Granger, Indiana, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Larry is also survived by his sister, Donnabelle Whittaker of Quincy, Illinois, and his brothers Dewey (Bea) Pratt of Conover, North Carolina, Robert (Janet) Pratt of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Jerald (Marijane) Pratt of Payson, Illinois. Surviving as well are many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, and two foster brothers.

Larry graduated in 1959 from Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio, and then went on to graduate from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1961. He moved to Elkhart, Indiana in 1964 and went to work for Miles Laboratories in 1969. He trained as an electrician and became Senior Supervisor at the Enzyme Plant. He retired in 1995 from Solvay.

Larry and Karen enjoyed traveling around the country for five years in a motor home, eventually coming back home to Elkhart. Larry also enjoyed the beach, and visiting Arizona. In his spare time, he collected trains, and loved gardening flowers. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart.
He leaves behind a family who loves and adores him, and friends that love and respect him. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who made those around him better people.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Friday, July 23, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, as well as one hour prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 400 West Boulevard, Elkhart, Indiana. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family's preferred memorials are Trinity Lutheran Church, or the Ribbon of Hope Cancer Support Ministry, 600 East Boulevard, Elkhart, Indiana 46514.
