Lennie G. Frye, 79, of South Bend, IN went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday August 21, 2022. He was born on May 28, 1943 in East Chicago, IN to Lemuel and Mattie Belle (Ballard) Frye. He married Maxine Tolleson on October 15, 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; a son, Eric Frye; a daughter, Lynnette Vondrak; 2 grandchildren, Derek and Morgan Vondrak; and a sister, Nancy Monix.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and a sister.
Lennie was a member of Trinity Church in South Bend. He started his work life in the steel mills in East Chicago. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy for four and a half years during the Cuban Blockade. He was stationed on the USS Enterprise six months after it was commissioned as the first nuclear ship. He achieved the rank of Corporal as an Indiana State Trooper, retiring after 33 years. He was a security officer for St. Joseph Medical Center. After retiring from security, he was a driver for Gates Toyota in South Bend.
Lennie loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 11-1 PM Monday August 29, 2022 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in his honor will begin at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Elara Caring Hospice, Wounded Warriors or the Indiana State Police Memorial Fund.
