Elkhart- Leonard H. Chevalier, 91, of Elkhart, died Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at home. Leonard was born December 23, 1931 in Mount Clemens, Michigan to Harry C. and Helen V. (Hofer) Chevalier. He married Audra Jean Stark on March 22, 1958 at the Michigan State
University Alumni Chapel in East Lansing Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles and his wonderful wife Audra. Surviving are his three sons; Jon (Rose) of Goshen Indiana, Jeffrey (Kim) of Elkhart Indiana and Lee (Keri) of Lansing Michigan; four granddaughters; Sara (Steven), Libby (Logan), Sophie, and Ava and one grandson; Aric; one cousin; Helen Taft. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and took great pride and interest in the education and nurturing of his grandchildren. He enjoyed both attending and watching college and professional basketball and football on the television, was an avid reader and followed the political activities that went on at the local, state and national levels. In 1950, Leonard graduated in Michigan from Mount Clemens High School earning eight varsity letters; four in basketball, three in track and one in football. He earned a 1957 bachelors and a 1959 master's degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University. Nothing made him feel better then being on the winning side when playing against Notre Dame and Michigan in collegiate sports. He spent 30 years in Information Technology positions spanning computer programming, major project system design and implementation through overall responsibility for multiple company's technology. He retired in 1991 from Ameritrust (First National Bank Elkhart) as Vice President of Computer Operations. Leonard was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 on Friday, March 10 th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on McKinley Avenue in Osceola, Indiana. Cremation will take place. Chapel Hill Funeral is entrusted with arrangements.
