ELKHART-Leonard Smart, 78 passed away Saturday morning at Elkhart General Hospital. Leonard was born in Conway, AR to Lewis and Minurvia(Wright)Smart. He married Mary R. Taylor on October 26, 1961. Leonard worked at Herroli Industries for sixteen years and was later a truck driver for the City of Elkhart Street Department for 24 years. He enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and other Indiana sports teams. Leonard liked fishing, woodworking he also liked teaching his daughter how to build things and taught his wife how to fish. His greatest love of all was spending time with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters, Tina L Smart, Lora A Smart, Veronica (Efrem) Dunlap, grandchildren, William Smart, Damond Smart, Raphael Dunlap, Ebony Coleman, brothers Herman Smart, Lyman Smart Sr, sisters Maxine Smart Hill and Doris Smart Miles. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lewis Smart Jr., James Smart, Ervin Smart, sisters Carlene Dooley and Linda Smart. A gathering of friends and family will be Saturday, April 9 ,2016 from 11:00 am- 12:00pm at Community Missionary Baptist Church, 228 Chapman Ave, Elkhart, IN 465169 with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 pm with Reverend David Land officiating burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church in Leonard's memory.
