Obituary

Lois Jean "Jean" Dobbs, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a life full of compassion, laughter, and devotion to others. Jean was born on September 6, 1956, in Monticello, Kentucky, to Wesley Jackson Bell and Mary Lou Bell (Coffey). She was one of several siblings in a tight-knit, loving family that taught her the values of kindness, hard work, and resilience.

Jean spent her life caring for others, both professionally and personally. She proudly served as a registered nurse for more than 40 years, dedicating the final 14 years of her career to Allied Physicians Surgery Center before retiring. Jean had a deep passion for nursing and was known for her gentle touch, calm presence, and strong work ethic. Her patients and coworkers alike admired her dedication and the warmth she brought to every room she entered.

Outside of her career, Jean found the most joy in spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her home was often filled with laughter, delicious home-cooked meals, and the sounds of classic rock and roll—her favorite music genre. She had a special place in her heart for flowers and gardening and could often be found lovingly tending to her flower beds, especially during the spring and summer months.

Jean and her beloved husband, Victory Dobbs, shared a beautiful love story that spanned more than five decades. They were married for nearly 52 years, building a life rich in love, memories, and adventure. Together, they shared a passion for travel and were fortunate to explore many places, with Hawaii holding a special place in Jean's heart. Closer to home, the couple spent nearly every wedding anniversary at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City—a tradition filled with joy and companionship.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Mary Lou Bell; her brother, Franklin Wayne Bell; and her precious granddaughter, Kiarah Baxter.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Victory Dobbs of Mishawaka; her children, Victor (Jenny) Dobbs of Mishawaka and Missy (Chris) Heick of South Bend; and her grandchildren, Asher (Kaylee) Baxter of Auburn, Evan Mead of Niles, Michigan, and Samantha (Kooper) Reppert of Mishawaka. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Katie Lou Bell of Mishawaka and Connie (Roger) Dobbs of Stearns, Kentucky; her sisters-in-law, Kathy Dobbs of Stearns, KY, and Linda Dobbs of Somerset, KY; and her brothers-in-law, George Coffey and Donald Coffey of Stearns, KY. Jean's legacy also lives on through countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and those whose lives she touched over the years.

Jean will be remembered not only for her professional accomplishments and caregiving heart but also for her deep faith, her gentle soul, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and loved. Her strength, humility, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
