Obituary

Lorine F. Martin, age 85, of Simonton Lake in Elkhart, passed away May 20, 2009 at Hospice House of Elkhart after an extended illness. She was born September 23, 1923 to Albert and Gladys (Hook) Quier in Mishawaka, Indiana. On September 5, 1942, Lorine married Robert D. Martin in Dunlap, Indiana. They would have celebrated their 67th anniversary this September.
Robert survives, along with two daughters, Terrie (Don) Alexander and Sherrie (John) Putman, both of Elkhart, Indiana. Also surviving are two grandsons, Jeff (Tami) Murray of Elkhart, and David Holdren of Chicago, as well as 3 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren, and 1 step great-great grandchild. Surviving as well are two brothers, Darwin (Eleanor) Quinn and Robert (Mary Kay) Quier of Georgia, and four sisters, Betty Simpson of Florida, Jane (Ralph) Thornton of Grander, Sue Spesshardt of Elkhart, and Sally Walsh of Maine. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kelly Renee and two sisters, Alice Carroll and Doris Books.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana. There will be a small private funeral ceremony for the immediate family at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Elkhart High School, and earned her degree from the Elkhart Business College. She was employed by the First National Bank and the Elkhart Truth as a data processor. Lorine enjoyed her years at the summer home she and her husband owned at Birch Lake in Vandalia, Michigan, as well as their winter home in Sebring, Florida. Lorine and Robert returned to Elkhart permanently in 1999.
