Obituary

Lorraine Victoria (Nelson) Gibson, 88, died Sunday September 19, 2010 at Golden Living Center-Fountainview in Mishawaka. She was born in St. Paul, MN on May 16, 1922 to Nicholas Arvid and Olga Victoria (Nelson) Nelson, the fifth of six children. During WWII, Lorraine served in the Nurses Cadet Corps. and graduated in 1945 from the Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, and remained a member of the Hospital''s Nurses Association. She worked as a Nurse Missionary with the Evangelical Covenant Church in Ecuador and South America, and as a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, South Bend, serving on governing boards and committees, singing in the choir and serving as Nurse at various Bible Camps. Demonstrating a gift for hospitality, she became known as Grandma Lorraine'' to the children for whom she cared at the church''s "Mom''s Morning Out". Lorraine is survived by her children, Marcia Gibson and Timothy Gibson, both of South Bend, and Kristine (Kenneth) Woodworth of New Carlisle; her sister, Marjorie J. Anderson of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Mindy, Ryan, Sarah, Kimberlie and Kyle, and great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Kaylie, Jensen & Jordan. Lorraine was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Memorial Services are 3:00pm Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 3025 E. Edison Rd. South Bend, officiated by Rev. Bradley Hill. The family''s preferred memorial is the church''s Memorial Fund. Private burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
