Lyfford W. "Shorty" Knowles, age 76, of Mishawaka, passed away at his residence on November 14, 2011. Shorty was born December 19, 1934 in Nortonville, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Mary (Young) Knowles. On October 26, 1952, he married Joyce Bultman.
Joyce survives, along with their children, Beckie Sanchez and her companion Greg Darr of Mishawaka, Bill Knowles and his wife Margaret of Mishawaka, Beth Young and her husband Al of South Bend, and Barb Horvath of Mishawaka. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Tomas Sanchez and his wife Melissa, Shalon Sanchez, Chris Horvath and his wife Jenelle, Joyce Flory and her husband Kevin, Nicole Knowles, and Brandon Knowles. Surviving as well are nine great grandchildren; Brionna, Brooklyn and Braeya Horvath, Carter and Parker Slock, Caidyn Bailey and Alaina Flory, and Keelan Krol.
Memorial visitation will be held from 3-7 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will be held at a later date.
Shorty was employed by Reliable Dairy for several years, serving as a Union Steward during his time there. He was then employed by the Bendix Corporation (now Honeywell) until his retirement 14 years ago. Shorty enjoyed playing golf and poker, and going to the Casino to play craps. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for many years, and enjoyed bowling in leagues in South Bend.
