Madeleine E. Van Zant, age 105, residing at St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of Lincoln Way East, in Mishawaka, passed away quietly on February 15, 2019. Madeleine was born on November 8, 1913 in Manteno, Illinois to the lat Alexis O. Surprenant and Lucille Giroux.

Madeleine married Frederick A. Van Zant on June 29, 1935. Fred and Madeleine had been married for 65 years. Frederick passed away on September 17, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers Hillaire and Theodore Surprenant, and three sisters Lorraine Vollmert, Jennete Surprenant, and viola Sheppard. Madeleine is survived by a son Alex (Carol) Van Zant, and grandsons Michael and Sean.

Madeleine had been employed for 15 years at Ball Band and had been a long time member of St. Joseph Church in Mishawaka as well as a 25 year member of St. Joseph Hospital auxiliary.

There will be no visitation or services. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Mausoleum in Osceola. Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Church at 225 South Mill Street in Mishawaka.
