IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret L.
Dillman
July 25, 1951 – March 23, 2023
MARGARET L. (MARGE) DILLMAN, 71, of Elkhart, IN
On March 23, 2023 at 8:05 a.m, Marge peacefully passed from this life in her home. She was surrounded by her beloved husband, James, her daughter Jacqueline Denman, son-in-law Matt Denman, and her pride and joy, her grandchildren Jaxon and Zoe Denman.
Marge was born July 25, 1951 in Mishawaka, IN to William and Hattie Lechlitner. Marge graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1969. Soon after she began her 42½ year career at Indiana Bell. She took her job seriously as an area installation and repair manager most of her career at the 5th St Garage. She spent the last of her years with the company as a U-verse area manager and retired from AT&T in 2012.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie Lechlitner.
Marge is survived by her brothers and their spouses, Thomas (Cindy) Lechlitner, Herbert (Susan)
Lechlitner, and David (Debbie) Lechlitner. She had numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Her surviving loved ones also include her husband's children and their spouses, Debra (Rocky) Kryski,
James (Nickie) Dillman, Scott (Kathy) Dillman, and Doug (Julie) Dillman. She was also blessed with their
families, including 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition, she shared a special bond
with numerous members of Jim's immediate family.
Marge was deeply loved by all. When her grandkids started calling her Mar Mar, everyone, not just her family, began to use that name too. Mar Mar may have been a different way of saying grandma, but the meaning was from pure love.
Marge met Jim while they were working at the phone company. They were not only a romantic match, they also were, in life, two of a kind -- hard-working, honest and beloved by those who knew them. Above all, they were about family and friends. Marge and Jim started their lives together in 1978. On July 8, 1983, while on a Las Vegas vacation they were truly on a roll. After winning at the craps table, and having more than a few "complimentary cocktails," they made the bet of their lifetime. Off they went to find the "A Wedding Chapel." It was the best bet that they ever made. Marge and Jim built a beautiful home on the St. Joseph River in Elkhart. Their life was never again quiet.
She loved to host parties, but never sat down to enjoy them. She loved to have everyone together. The Dillman house was filled with family and friends for every summer holiday, birthdays (including Elvis'), card parties, and so many more occasions. Mar Mar was the hostess with the mostest and was in her element when she could see people, especially kids, having a good time. She turned the garage into a buffet with enough food to feed the neighborhood. She manned the boat with kid after kid (and adults) at the end of a ski rope. You only told Mar Mar once that you couldn't be thrown off the tube before she proved you wrong. She was the biggest kid of all. She sincerely loved making people happy.
All who knew Marge agree on this: "I have never known anyone like Marge. She loved to see everyone having fun. Mar Mar was someone special."
She loved to travel with Jim. She also made several trips with her girls' group, the Ya-Ya's. She especially loved taking her grandkids to different destinations. Her excitement in providing them with wonderful experiences was priceless.
Anyone who knew Marge knew she loved Elvis. She and her friends made more than one pilgrimage to Graceland. She had only one request for her funeral, Elvis music.
She's in heaven with her mother and father and will be dearly missed by her loving family. Services will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. The viewing will be Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. with the funeral service on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
