Obituary

Margery J. Payne, 90, of South Bend, died Tuesday January 16, 2018. She was born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, to Robert & Dorothy (Wilson) Drage. It was there she met her future husband, James B. Payne, in 1943 while he was stationed there with the US Army Air Corps. They were married in England on September 27, 1945 and James preceded her in death on August 15, 1998 after 52 years of marriage. Margery retired from Building Services at Notre Dame and she enjoyed shopping, rooting for Notre Dame (especially football) and her annual trips to England to visit family & friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Bradley Payne and her brothers, Gordon & Dennis Drage. Margery is survived by her 11 children; Sandra L. Scheer of The Villages FL, Cheryl L. (Rudy) Delarosa of Maricopa AZ, Linda (Chuck) Jones of Knoxville TN, James (Linda) Payne, Diana (James) Chamberlain, Dennis (Jessica) Payne, Kenneth Payne and Donna (Michael) Myers, all of South Bend, Carol (Dan) Warmoth of Mishawaka, Wendy (Patrick) Kennedy of Granger and Gayle Payne of South Bend; 29 grandchildren and 65 great and great-great-grandchildren . Funeral Services 2:00 Friday January 19, 2018 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. where friends may call on Friday from 1-2pm. Calling also Thursday from 4-8pm in the funeral home.
