Obituary

Marilyn E. Martin, age 86, of South Bend passed away at 8:20 pm on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Healthwin Specialized Care Center. Marilyn was born February 24, 1926 in Lancaster, New Hampshire to the late Carl and Eva (Abbott) Bartlett. On April 9, 1952, she married Leon "Hoss" Martin in Des Arc, Arkansas. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Hoss passed away on August 23, 2006.
Surviving are her children, Gilbert Martin and his wife Marie of Osceola, Cynthia Vaught and her husband John of Schererville, Indiana, Gloria Gouldman and her husband Dave of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Michelle Brown of Sacramento, California. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Ami, Angelina, Jared, Justin, Joshua, Rogina, Ryan and John, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her siblings Carl Bartlett and Beverly R. Vickrey.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 6, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Marilyn met her husband Leon while working in production at Ball Band in Mishawaka. She then worked for the South Bend School Corporation for many years before her retirement in the late 1980''s. Marilyn then continued to work part time for Teacher''s Credit Union for several years.
In her younger years, she played softball with the Ball Band team, sang in the group the "Sweet Adelines" enjoyed tap dancing, and singing in the church choir. Around the home, she enjoyed crocheting and working in her flower gardens. Marilyn was also a longtime member of the Community Congregational Church. Marilyn was quite adventurous, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad.
In her memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association, 50 E. 91st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
