Martha “Joyce” Kouts Wheeler, 68, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2026, with her loving family by her side at Memorial Mission Hospital in South Bend.

Joyce was born on November 15, 1958, in Manchester, Tennessee, to Martha June (Throneberry) Sullivan Brown and the late J.C. Sullivan. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Stewart.

A devoted follower of the Christian faith, Joyce found great joy in caring for others and expressing her creativity. She loved sewing, quilting, designing pillows, and cooking—gifts she shared generously with family and friends.

Joyce met the love of her life, Kenny Wheeler, and the two were united in marriage on August 27, 2015, in Austin, Texas. Together, they built a life grounded in love, companionship, and shared happiness.

She recently retired from PEI-Genesis after 38 years of dedicated service, where she was highly respected for her extensive knowledge and skill in operating multiple types of machinery. Her strong work ethic and commitment left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside her.

Joyce is survived by her loving mother, Martha Brown; her daughter, Sarah Kouts; and her cherished grandchild, Leigh Ann Stewart.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest during a private graveside service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana, in the Garden of the Apostles.

Joyce will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the love she gave so freely to her family.
