Obituary

Marvin Cloyd Whitten, 83, of Osceola, passed away at 8:30 pm, Sunday, August 15, 2010 in Our Lady of Peace Hospital surrounded by his family, who loved him dearly. Marvin was born on February 24, 1927 in Florence, AL to the late Henry T. and Lunie B. (Hurst) Whitten. On June 5, 1947 he married Eula Dowdy in Florence, AL.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Eula, four children, Fred & Jan of Osceola, Marvin E. of Mishawaka, David, and James and Kelly of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Aaron, Bryon, Craig, Holly, Waneta, David, Tori, Stacy, and Lori; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He is also survived by three sisters, Ethel, Dot and Luna Belle. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles, one brother, and four sisters.
Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He worked for Uniroyal for 38 years before his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion Post 308, Osceola and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 360. He will be remembered for his love of woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing, and playing his guitar.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
