Goose Creek, SC – Mary Grace Burkhart, 78, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a period of declining health, with her loving husband beside her at The Agape House, Low Country Community Hospice, in Summerville, South Carolina.

Mary was born on March 29, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Wayne and Lucille (Brown) Hight. After graduating from high school, she began her career at Studebaker Corporation in South Bend. It was there that she began her journey toward a life filled with love and family.

Mary met the love of her life, Larry Burkhart, and the two were married in Honolulu, Hawaii, on September 28, 1971. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and cherished memories.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Larry Burkhart; her son, Timothy Ellis Burkhart; her grandchildren, Christopher Ellis Burkhart and Stephanie Elizabeth Burkhart; her great-grandchild, River Alexander Ellis Burkhart; her sisters, Kay Hight and Maxine Martin; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and associates.

Mary enjoyed traveling and exploring scenic sights and historical places. She also found joy in serving others through her volunteer work with the Bread Basket and as an usher and greeter at Cathedral Praise Church in Oaktown. A quiet and gentle person, Mary had a warm heart and a special way of making friends wherever she went. Above all, she treasured her family and the many roles she held as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until noon, with the funeral service immediately following at 12:00 noon at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana.

Mary will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Garden of the Last Supper, in Osceola, immediately following the funeral service.
