"The Father said so"and Mary Dale Martin, 88, of South Bend, died at 8:10 pm, Monday, October 6, 2014. Mary was born on May 21, 1926, the daughter of Dale and Darthula (Givhan) Rogers. She is survived by five children, James (Cathy) Rogers of South Bend, Jacqueline Selmon of South Bend, Carl Selmon of South Bend, Marilyn (Esaw) Harris of South Bend and Sherrie Selmon of Mishawaka; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by siblings Alvin Rogers of St. Louis, Ida Mae (Willie) Chapman of Jackson, TN and Verline Reed of St. Louis. She is preceded in death by her parents, children, Doris Rogers and Micheal Selmon, granddaughter, Tamicka Rogers, great grandson, Kalyn Farmer and siblings, Cecil Rogers, Leonard Rogers, Herbert Rogers, Romney Rogers, Anna Ragland, Saran Farington and Wilma Cummins. She worked for Notre Dame in the North Dining Hall for 18 years before her retirement in 1990. Ms. Mary was a strong women and great in character. She persevered despite all her obstacles and challenges. She had a tough spirit and I am sure we all can reflect back and think of stories and chuckle. This is what made her Ms. Mary. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, October 11, 2014 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola with one hour of visitation prior to the services. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
