Obituary

Mary Josephine Chapman, 88, of South Bend, died March 21, 2017 peacefully at home. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary (Farrell) Wetmore; husband, Herbert Chapman; and children, Richard, Lawrence, Ann Margaret, and Jean. Mary is survived by her children, Susan Wilder of South Bend, William (Sue) Chapman of Dowagiac, Mary (John) Dempsey of Mishawaka, Mary Jean Downin of Galesburg, Joseph (Kathleen) Chapman of Mishawaka, James (Pam) Chapman of Edwardsburg, Patricia (Michael) Hensley of South Bend, Michael (Alice) Chapman of Nashville, Julie (Brian) Carney of Toronto, and Robert Chapman of Mishawaka; daughter-in-law Barbara Chapman; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Katherine and Eulalia. Born in Niles, Michigan, Mary married Herbert in 1949. Her greatest pleasure involved lively card games and home cooked meals with her extended family. She also enjoyed reading, solving soduko, crossword, and word search puzzles, crocheting, singing and listening to music. Mary loved fall drives through the colorful Michiana countryside. Mary was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was deeply spiritual and fully devoted to her faith. As a member of The Legion of Mary, she humbly served by visiting, assisting and praying with those in need. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be held Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Anthony de Padua Church with calling from 9-11 AM prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude''s Children''s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
