Maxine R. Nelson, 94, died Thursday June 25, 2015. The Bourbon native was born August 12, 1920 to George & Fannie (Miller) Watkins. On July 4, 1942 she married Vern L. Nelson in Vistula IN; he preceded her in death in 1995. Maxine was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing for others; she was an active participant in the Elkhart Co fair with baking, sewing, canning and assisting her grandchildren & great-grandchildren with their 4-H projects. She was also a member of the Pony Express Riders and the Friendly Pioneers. Maxine loved gardening & flowers and was an avid Cubs fan. In addition to her husband, Maxine was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert & DeVoe Watkins and her sister, Helen Holler. She is survived by her daughters, Judith (Larry) Hahn of Wakarusa and Nancy A. Kline of Elkhart. Also surviving are her sisters, Mary Besson of Leesburg and Jayne Neff of Goshen; her grandchildren, Melisa (Jeff) Burnham, Angela (Rick) Yoder, Chad (Melissa) Hahn, Erin (Shaun) Edgerton, Erika (Dana) Redman, Kandy (Steve) Reed and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services 2:00 Monday June 29, 2015 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. where friends may call on Monday from 12-2pm. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family prefers that any memorials be directed to the organization of the donor''s choice.
