Maxine Marie Hoagland, age 87, of Elkhart, passed away Wed., April 30, 2014 at Hospice House of Elkhart County. Maxine was born Jan. 28, 1927 in Elkhart to the late Claude M. and Katherine (Ludwick) Noffsinger. On May 31, 1946, she married Howard P. Hoagland. He preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda S. (John) Hardy and Sandra K. (John) Castetter, both of Elkhart, and her grandchildren, Michelle Rhoads, Todd (Karla) Castetter, Carrie Castetter, Cameron (Sarahys) Enders, and Adrienne (Clint) Anderson. Also surviving are 5 step grandchildren; Lisa (William) Thomas, Kristen Hardy-Price, Erin Hardy-Bennett, Shannon (James) Reed, and Nicole (Jon) Hardy Pagels, as well as several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her siblings, Gerald Noffsinger, Donald Noffsinger, Joyce Palmeter and Nancy Garver, all preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, May 5, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Maxine retired from Miles Laboratories after 28 years of service. After her retirement, she worked part time for Rainbo Lanes, Elkhart General Hospital, and at the DAV Chapter 19 in Elkhart. She was a member of the Moose Lodge #599, the Bristol American Legion Post # 143, and was very active with the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #19 in Elkhart. Maxine loved to plant, and tend to the flowers in her yard, and enjoyed making crafts.
Maxine''s wish was to thank her caregivers, Todd and Karla Castetter, for all of their loving care during her time of need. In her memory, donations may be given to the DAV Chapter 19 or the Center for Hospice.
