Melvin K. Walter, age 88, of Osceola passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at Valley View Nursing Home after a brief illness. Melvin was born Nov. 10, 1925 to the late Francis and Ida (Foust) Walter in Winamac, Indiana. On March 20, 1948, he married Emma L. Shultz. She preceded him in death, passing away Jan. 25, 2012.
Surviving are his children, Jack (Dee Dee) Walter of Goshen, Roy (Kathy) Walter of Osceola, and Linda (Cecil) Wilkinson of Mishawaka. Also surviving is his stepdaughter Jean (Jerry) Peterson of Sacramento, CA. Melvin is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren, as well as his siblings Harold Walter of Alabama, Mary Flora and Jane Gentry, both of Mishawaka. He was preceded in death by his sisters Irene Salyer and Martha Arvin.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Chapel Hill where Military Honors will be rendered. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
