Michael K. Couch, 66, of Elkhart died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital. The Park Rapids MN native was born February 20. 1948 to Theodore K. and Norma Jean (Woods) Couch, who have both preceded Mike in death. Mike was raised in Edwardsburg, MI and joined the Army in 1967. He was a proud Viet Nam veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service medal, Viet Nam Service medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Marksman & Sharpshooter as well as the Good Conduct medal. He was a life member of the D.A.V. Chapter 19 in Elkhart. Mike worked for 30 years as a proud member of Midwest Operating Engineers, Local #150, before retiring in 2005. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors & nature. Mike enjoyed old westerns & comedies and anything concerning history. He liked to travel and enjoyed grilling out, spending time with old friends, his grandchildren and quiet times at home with family. On April 8, 2002 he married his longtime friend & partner, Betty Couch. They were blessed with a total of 28 years together. Betty survives, along with sons, Jamey Couch in Virginia and Harley Tomanini of Osceola; daughter, Amy (Michael) Flagler of Bristol; grandchildren, Austin & Madlyn Flager and Shealin & Ciera Tomanini; brothers, Larry Couch in Phoenix and Tom (Toots) Couch of Sorrento, FL; sister Frances (Bob) Williamson of Sturgis, KY and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles William "Bill" Couch. Funeral Services 2:00 Thursday March 27, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call 4-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Gracelawn Cemetery in Elkhart. The family''s preferred memorial is Riley Children''s Hospital in Indianapolis.
