Osceola – Michael (Mike) Briston Hiatt, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Mike was born on July 19, 1951, in South Bend to the late James and Mary (Garwood) Hiatt. He was a proud graduate of North Liberty High School, Class of 1970. Throughout his career, Mike devoted himself to being a skilled handyman, remodeling and maintaining numerous homes throughout the Michiana area. He took pride in his work and found great satisfaction in helping others and bringing new life to the places they called home.

Mike is survived by his life partner of 49 years,Jan Spalding; his daughter, Amber M. (Nate) Koszyk; his brother, Paul Hiatt; his sisters, Carol (Mitch) Pearish, Cathy Podell, Cindy Hiatt, Chris (Fred) Zeithammer, and Shelly Hirt; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who will cherish his memory.

A talented musician, Mike found great joy in playing his drums and performing with numerous bands over the years. His love of music was matched by his passion for working with his hands. Whether tackling projects around his own home, helping others with their homes, or enthusiastically tending to his yard each day, Mike was happiest when he had something to work on. He also enjoyed going to car shows and vintage cars. Among his favorite getaways were hiking adventures and trips to the beautiful Smoky Mountains, where he could enjoy the outdoors and the simple pleasures of nature. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and puppy,Bacon.

A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola, Indiana.
