Michael F. Sheets, 89, of South Bend, died Saturday April 8, 2017. The South Bend native was born June 16, 1927 to Fred C. & Elizabeth (Santos) Sheets. Mike was a veteran, serving in both the US Navy & US Army. On October 9, 1954, he married the former Helen M. Beauchamp in South Bend; she survives after 62 years of marriage. Mike retired as a driver for Steel Fabrication in Mishawaka; he was a member of St Matthew Cathedral, the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed bowling, fishing & hunting, tending to his yard and trying his luck at an occasional trip to the casinos. In addition to Helen, Mike is survived by their children, Tom (Alice) Sheets, Sharon (Al) Howe and Patricia (Larry Perkins) Overmyer, all of South Bend; grandchildren, Angela Hill, Christopher Overmyer, Jennifer (Eric) Mejer & Rachel (Brian) Batti, all of South Bend, Brandy (Scott) Pletcher and April (Brandon) Negrete, both of Mishawaka; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and also his brother, James Sheets. Funeral Services 10:00 Wednesday April 12, 2017 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, with calling one hour prior to services. Calling also on Tuesday from 4-8pm in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors.
