Obituary

Mildred Irene Lind, 96, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, at the Center for Hospice – Raclin House in Mishawaka, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Born on August 22, 1929, in LaPaz, Indiana, Mildred was the beloved daughter of the late Delmar and Pauline (Thomas) Carothers. She grew up in a bustling household as one of thirteen siblings and attended Bremen High School.

On June 30, 1956, Mildred married Charles Lind. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, family, and enduring love.

Mildred was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ in South Bend, where she found joy and fellowship in the Young at Heart group and often helped organize and serve meals at potlucks. She retired after 31 years of dedicated service at Easy Heat Inc.

Energetic and full of life, Mildred enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. In her younger years, she loved bowling and participated in local leagues. She had a remarkable ability to brighten every room she entered and found joy in the simplest of moments, especially those spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lind; her parents; and siblings Donald Carothers, Delmar Carothers Jr., Gerald Carothers, Vernon Carothers, Noble Carothers, Delores Masterson, Joy Replogle, Geneva McAfee, Connie Marshall and Bill Carothers.
