Nancy A. Baker, 88, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday July 2, 2024, in Elkhart.  She was born on June 5, 1936 to  Richard O. and Lakie M. (Phillips) Burgess. Her mother passed away when she was 2 and she was lovingly raised by her father and her step-mother, Mary Burgess.   She married Ivan C. Baker on February 21, 1953 in South Carolina.

Nancy graduated from Radford High School in Virginia.  She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.  She was a supervisor in Eastern Waterbed Sheet factory.  She was employed with Elkhart Community Schools in the cafeteria.  Nancy loved to watch the birds and squirrel.  One of her favorite things was to travel- just not by plane.  There are only a few states in the US that she hasn't visited.  Her favorites were out west.  She loved to see the sights with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ivan; a son, Ronald S. (Mary Jane) Baker; a daughter, Patricia D. (Calvin) Large; 5 grandchildren: Amber (Kevin Kelley) Baker, Adam (Samantha) Baker, Bryce (Kayla) Large, Ronald Baker and Mary Baker; and 6 great-grandchildren; Tyler, Novah, Ariana, Raiden, Cruze and Miles; a brother, Tony L (Nancy) Burgess and a sister, Connie S. Bell.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mona Wood.

Friends may visit with the family from 11-12 pm Thursday July 11, 2024 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561.  A Funeral Service in her honor will begin at 12 pm at the funeral home.  Pastor Sarah Miller of New Hope United Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
