Nelson L. "Sonny" Parks, 79, of Syracuse, passed away at 7:15 pm, Monday, February 15, 2010 in Revercrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka. Nelson was born on April 16, 1930 in Niles, MI to the late Nelson V. and Dorothy I. (Anderson) Parks. On June 14, 1952, he married Delores "Sue" Long. Sonny is survived by his loving wife Sue; three children, Brenda (Charles) Alberts of Elkhart, Steven Parks of South Bend, and Kevin Parks of South Bend; five grandchildren, Jamie Coleman, Dustin Alberts, Tiffany Alberts, Hunter Parks and Grace Parks. He is survived by two sisters, Francis Weaver of LaGrange and Dorothy Overvad of Elkhart and brother, Charles (Diane) Imos of Osceola. He proudly served his country during the occupation of Japan and again in Korea. He was a Recon Ranger in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1951. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 360 of Mishawaka. He worked for Bendix for many years before his retirement in 1985 and was a member of the U.A.W. He was also a member of the North Webster Church of God. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, February 19, 2010 in the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Judy to officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
