Norman W. McCartney, age 80, of Osceola, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Inwood Hills in South Bend. Norman was born June 20, 1931 to the late Minet and Frances (Crabb) McCartney in Hamlet, Indiana.
Surviving are his children, Terry (Wanda) McCartney of Osceola, Dudley (Cheryl) Rider of Elkhart, and Darlene (Steve) VanRie of Georgia. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Tammy McCartney, Carrie Whitteberry, Kelly Rider, Jamie (Jason) Stacy, Ginny VanRie, and Kurt VanRie, as well as his great grandchildren Austin Raab, Conner Stacy & Kara Stacy. Norman is survived as well by his siblings, Larry (Sue) McCartney, Keith (Betty) McCartney, and Sharon Grady. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley McCartney in October of 2010, and his siblings Kenneth, Roscoe and Paul McCartney, Frances Runnels, and Evelyn Smith.
Friends may call from 2-6 pm Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Rev. Jeff Truex will officiate the 10:00 am funeral service on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Norman was employed in the maintenance department at Dodge Reliant in Mishawaka for over 25 years before his retirement. He was also a member of the Civil Defense and volunteered with the Osceola Fire Department for over 20 years as well. Norman attended Cedar Road Missionary Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing and woodworking.
