Ollie May Gropp was chosen by God our Heavenly Father to live with Him in Heaven at 9:45 pm, Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was called peacefully into Heaven while she slept.
Ollie was born in White Plains, KY on August 19, 1923 to Arnold Jewell Whitfield and Lena Belle (Hays) Whitfield who preceded her in death. At age 15, she moved to Mishawaka to live with her Aunt Effie (Whitfield) and Uncle Floyd Bruegel.
After graduating from Mishawaka High School in Mishawaka in 1941, she worked at Ball Band and later the Kreske''s Dime Store in South Bend. On April 29, 1945 she married Wesley L. Gropp in the First Baptist Church where she was a faithful lifelong member. She and her husband served as Youth Sponsors, she was an Awana Sparks Leader, VBS Secretary and part of the Stichetts and Tabitha Missionary groups. She enjoyed doing embroidery work, collecting all kinds of elephant items, pencils and thimbles from all the states.
Surviving is her daughter, Karen (Eugene "Butch") Sherrill, two grandchildren, Nancy (Tom) Savage of Pensacola, FL and Brian Sherrill of Mishawaka. She has three great granddaughters, Alyssa, Sydney and Emily Savage of Pensacola, FL.
Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Gevaert of Mishawaka, Shirley (John) Gross of Calumet City, IL and one brother, Arnold (Greta) Whitfield of Love. CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband on August 16, 1997 and three brothers, Frank "Ebby" Whitfield, Thomas Whitfield, and Benjamin Whitfield.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.,one hour before the 11:00 am service in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Pastor Peter Jones of First Baptist Church will be officiating.
