Obituary

Ora Tackett, age 87, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Ora was born October 8, 1922 in Chester County, Tennessee to the late Mansfield and Eva (McCaskill) Weaver. On August 4, 1945, Ora married Millard "Pete" Tackett in Franklin, KY. Pete preceded her in death, passing away in 1979.

Surviving are her daughters, Julia "Judy" C. (Jerry) Tate of Elkhart, and Brenda Strange-Holdren of Pensacola, FL. Also surviving are 3 granddaughters, Julie (Jody) Batkins, Kristi Tate, and Tennille (Craig) Tate-Qualls, and 6 great grandchildren; Forrestt, Alexis, Broddy, Joe, Allyviah, and Grady. Surviving as well are many nieces, nephews and friends. Ora was preceded in death by her siblings, Herman and Willard "Bill" Weaver, and Evelyn Garner-Stickel, and her son in law, Jack D. Holdren.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday, August 26, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 27, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Ora was employed by Wyman''s Department Store as a bookkeeper, Pace Manufacturing of Elkhart as an office worker, and then by the Elkhart Post Office as a Carrier for many years until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles and watching television. She spent many years in Florida with her daughter before moving back to the Elkhart area a couple of years ago. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, and spending time with all of her grandchildren.

In her memory, donations may be made to the First General Baptist Church of Osceola''s food pantry.
