Paul "Pat" Avery Newton, Jr., 93, of Osceola, passed away at 3:00 am, Thursday, September 27, 2012 in Greenleaf Living Center, Elkhart. Pat was born on May 19, 1919 in Kokomo, the son of the late Paul A. and Clara A. Newton, Sr. On November 20, 1941, he married Doris M. Ashley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Doris; two sons, Ron (Linda) Newton of La Grande, OR and Tom (Bunny) Newton of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Tony (Monica) Newton of Mishawaka, Scott (Rachel) Newton of Indianapolis, and Sarah (fianc Ben Barnett) Newton of Mishawaka; and five great grandchildren, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Ian, Ethan, and Aiden. He is also survived by his brother, George Newton and sister, Helen Johnson, both of South Bend. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Dick Newton and Betty Newton.
Pat proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He worked as a sheet metal worker for many years under the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local 20, and was a member of De''Amicis Club, Mishawaka. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, camping, watching sporting events and his love of his family.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 2, 2012 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola with full military rites.
