Paul R. Peck, age 76, of Mishawaka, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at his home in Mishawaka following a lengthy battle with cancer. Paul was born December 30, 1932 to the late William and Lillie Peck. In Mishawaka on May 9, 1981, Paul was united in marriage with the former Ms. Shelby Eaton. Paul and Shelby were married for over 27 years.
Shelby Peck survives, along with their children, Rick (Judi) Peck, Bruce (Jacquelyn) Peck, Brian Peck, Michael (Erin) Peck, William (Roni) Peck, and David Peck, all of Mishawaka; two step-sons Ron Hively of South Bend and Dan Hively of Mishawaka. Also surviving are his sisters Nancy Segers and Geneva (Herbert) Simpson of Killeen, Alabama, brothers in law Bruce and Tom Eaton, sisters in law Jewel (Dave) Frazier, Paula (Dan) Olinger, and Nancy Sunshine. Surviving as well are eight grand children; Kim, Theresa, Matthew Mitchell, McKenzie, Rowan, William II, and Riley along with two great grand children; Gabriel and Alex and his dog Butters.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will be one hour of calling prior to the 12:00 pm funeral service on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Ireland Road Church of God, 16555 Ireland Road in Mishawaka. Rev. J. Mark Muncy will officiate the services. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola where Military rites will be performed.
Paul served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army where he was enlisted in the 101st Airborne. During his time in Korea, Paul was a P.O.W. for several weeks until his escape from the prison camp where he was being held. Paul was honorably discharged after the war.
Paul was employed for many years as a welder, working for Wheelabrator Frye Corporation. He loved his work, and after leaving Wheelabrator Frye, continued working for himself until his retirement in the early 1990''s. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking for family and neighbors. He was very generous and loved all his grandchildren.
