Norris
April 8, 1929 – March 7, 2025
Phyllis Norris (95) of Osceola passed away at home with her family March 7th, 2025. Phyllis was the daughter of Phillip and Fern La Voie, born April 8th, 1929, in a farmhouse in Gilman, Illinois.
In the summer of 1946, she married Earl L. Keeling in Louisville, Kentucky where they shared a daughter, Starr Gordon. Earl preceded her in death.
Phyllis went to work for the Michigan Central Railroad in 1953 and continued through the years with the New York Central, Penn Central, & retired from Conrail Railroad in 1989 with 36 years of service.
On February 4th, 1962, she married Harry A. Norris. Together they both enjoyed their work on the railroad and traveling. He preceded her in death on August 1st, 1981.
She is survived by four grandsons, Charles (Karen) Gordon, Harry (Shawna) Gordon, William (Kara) Gordon, Michael (Julie) Gordon, along with several great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, her only sister, Joan Zillmer, and her daughter Starr Gordon.
She was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 27 and a life DAV member. She attended Clark Memorial Church in Elkhart. She and her husband enjoyed winters in Apache Junction, Arizona living near the foot of the Superstition Mountains. In later years after his passing she wintered in Fort Meyers, Florida. She loved keeping her yard up and being outdoors. Having lived on the banks of the St. Joe River for 40 years, she loved boating, skiing, riding her motorcycle, and traveling.
In passing to higher ground, we wish her all things on the other side that she didn't have time to enjoy or achieve on this earth plain.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Indiana.
The funeral service will be on Friday, March 14th At 12:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
Interment will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.
