IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rachel Louise
Macon
June 18, 1928 – June 29, 2024
Rachel Louise Macon
June 18, 1928 – June 29, 2024
Mrs. Rachel Louise Macon (Fortune), aged ninety-six, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Douglasville,
Georgia. Born on June 18, 1928, in Conway, Arkansas, she was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life.
On April 18, 1944, Rachel married Percie R. Macon in Conway. They later moved to South Bend, Indiana where they both worked until retirement. Mr. Macon preceded her in death in 1998.
Rachel was cherished for her peaceful demeanor and unwavering positive spirit. Known as a "praying woman," she was deeply committed to her faith, participating actively in the Elizabeth Memorial Church Of God In Christ (COGIC) and the Christian Center of South Bend. Her home was a haven of warmth, often filled with the aroma of her excellent cooking – a talent so profound she was once offered a local television show, which she humbly declined to keep her culinary creations within the circle of family and friends.
In addition to cooking, Rachel enjoyed fishing trips with her husband and children, working the phone prayer line at her church, and cherished moments spent with her family. The last of six siblings, Rachel had two brothers, Isaac and Benjamin; three sisters, Emma, Clarice, and Barbara — all of whom preceded her in death.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memories her children, Marlee Taylor, Alvin Macon, Dwight (Karen) Macon, and Annette Woods, all of Atlanta, Georgia; Marcus (Sandy) Macon, of North Carolina, Calvin (Sharon) Macon of South Bend and Yuvette (Richard) Taylor, Elkhart Indiana. She also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Rachel's legacy of love, faith, and culinary mastery will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew her.
