Ralph A. Smith, 90, of Elkhart, went to be with Jesus on Monday March 27, 2017. The Muncie native was born May 3, 1926 to Charles W. & Phoebe (Carter) Sibery. Ralph served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. On July 19, 1947, Ralph married Shirley (Surface) Smith in Shelbyville and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2017 after 69 years of marriage. A devoted family man, Ralph worked hard to be a good provider for his family. Also a Godly man, he was a member of Zion Missionary Church, where he served as a former board member; he also enjoyed singing and had served as a Worship Leader. In addition to his wife, Ralph was also preceded in death by two sons, Ralph A. Smith, Jr. and Earl R. Smith; two of his grandchildren, John Luke Walker and Hazel Irene Smith; his brother, Charles W. Sibery, Jr.; sister, Betty Long and half-brother, D. Eugene Sibery. Ralph is survived by his sons, Charles D. (Kathryn) Smith of Nappanee, Dennis E. (Frances) Smith and Keith G. (Janifer) Smith, both of Elkhart; thirteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services 4:00 Saturday April 1, 2017 in Zion Missionary Church, 1135 E Hively Ave, Elkhart, where friends may call Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm. Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
