Richard L. "Dick" Albright, 89, of South Bend, died at 7:45 am, Monday, November 3, 2014 in his home. Dick was born on Dec. 11, 1924, in Mishawaka, to the late Frank G. Albright and Louise (Kizer) Albright. He married the former Vi (Viola) Garcia-Philp, to whom he vows, "That in my absence, I pray God will watch over her, guide and console my Viola and I pray that God will permit us to be reunited in Heaven, for I long to be with her forever". Dick is survived by his loving wife Vi, who was always there to support each other. They had an unspoken love that only they could understand but everyone else could see, his son John Michael Albright of South Bend. His daughter-in-law, Carol (fianc Raphael) Albright of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandsons, Eric (Becca) Albright of Grand Rapids, MI, Steven (fiance Lilian) Albright, Christopher Albright, Richard L Albright, II and Aaron Albright, and granddaughter Jacqueline Albright, all of Fredericksburg, VA; Great-Grand children Eleanor and Dylan Albright of Grand Rapids, Michigan and step-great grandchildren, McKenzie, Abbey, Johanna, and Nick, all of Grand Rapid, MI. He is also survived by two sisters, Phyllis (Bob) Barrett of Cropwell, AL and Barbara Heiser of Kenosha, WI. Son, Frank, died in Nov.19, 2009, leaving a legacy for all of our family to treasure and follow. Upon graduating from Mishawaka High School, class of 1942, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with The 69th Combat Military Police Co. in the European Theatre of Operations until war''s end, being honorably discharged in December of 1945. Dick was a paid up member of the American Legion Post 60. Dick retired from the South Bend Police Department in 1973 where he served with pride, respect and dedication. His last assignment as Captain of the Detective Bureau. Dick served as the Firearms Instructor and also captained the Police Pistol Team for many years, garnering many awards for individual and four man team tournaments. The team participated in State, Regional and National Tournaments, winning recognition in all events. After retirement Dick served on the Police Pension Board for several years. Later in life Dick was introduced to the Fine Arts, became a member of the Northern Indiana Artists, Inc., served as treasurer of the organization for ten years and continued his winning ways garnering awards in many exhibits in which he entered as a painter of pastel Landscapes and Portraiture. Dick was a member of the Osceola United Methodist church. He served in the Parish Committee and the Wellness Committee. He participated in Disciple Classes and Bible Studies. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Chapel Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, November 7, 2014 in Osceola United Methodist Church, 431 N. Beech Rd, Osceola, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
