Richard E. "Dick" Miller, 86, of South Bend, passed away at 2:00 am, Sunday, May 30, 2010 in Healthwin Specialized Care Center, South Bend. Dick was born on June 28, 1923 in Granger, to the late Ralph and Blanche (Truax) Miller. On September 19, 1947 in Granger Presbyterian Church, he married Mary "Maxine" Miller. She passed away on June 26, 2006. He is also preceded in death by one grandson, Douglas, Jr., a brother, Robert and two sisters, Dolly Rice and Phyllis Schimmel.
He is survived by two children, Barbara (Arthur) Aragon and Douglas (Sandi) Miller, both of South Bend; five grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, Jason, Shawna, and Marisa and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Larry (Judy) Miller of Granger and a sister, Betty Heeter of Mishawaka.
Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Some of the vessels he served on were the ADV Destroyer, USS Neville, NOB Londonberry, NAS Houma, AGC Brooklyn and USS YFD-41. He was a member of the American Legion Post 703, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 360 and volunteered his time with the Special Olympics. He will be remembered for his love of the Cubs and Notre Dame.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 3, 2010 in the funeral home with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
