South Bend – Richard "Richie" Leon Ellsworth II, 49, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Richard was born on March 10, 1977, in Elkhart, Indiana, to the late Richard Leon Ellsworth and Rosalyn Carol "Rose" (Sherow) Ellsworth. He graduated from Elkhart Memorial High School in 1996 and dedicated many years of service to MSC Supply Company in Elkhart.
Above all else, Richard was a devoted husband, father, brother, and loyal friend. He shared 20 wonderful years with his beloved wife and lifelong best friend, Brooke Westphal. Together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family. He was a proud father to Chase Ellsworth and a caring stepfather to Alyson Westphal.
Richard is also survived by his sister, Robin (Ellsworth) Kamp; his nieces and nephews, Haley Ellsworth, Richard Kamp, and Riley (Brian) Hughey; as well as many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will remember his kindness, friendship, and the impact he had on their lives.
A man of deep Christian faith, Richard believed in Jesus Christ and faithfully read his Bible each day. His faith was an important part of his life and a source of strength and comfort. He also enjoyed spending time with The Walking Dead comics, playing word games on his tablet, and sharing those interests with others.
In honor of Richard's memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Association of America. 120 N. Rangeline Rd., Carmel, IN 46032 https://biausa.org/?campaign=559563
