Rita Noreen Markle, age 92, of Elkhart, passed away, March 25, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Elkhart. Rita was born March 21, 1920 in Trout Creek, Ontario, Canada to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Reichstein) Hummel. On Jan. 1, 1941, she was united in marriage to Roy Markle. Roy preceded her in death, passing away Sept. 8, 1993.
Surviving are her children, Jim (Vickie) Markle of Elkhart, IN and Tawney (Roy) Miller of Ft. Myers, FL and her siblings Steve (Jane) Hummel of CA, and Pricilla Lynett of Canada. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Scott (Kelly) Markle, Jennifer (Phillip) Landis, Ryan (Jodi) Markle, Chrissy Koopmans, Ken (Cindy) Cook, and Brad Cook, and 7 great grandchildren; Forrest Elizabeth and Kailey Cook, Austin and Owen Landis, and Madeleine and Isla Markle. Rita was preceded in death by her children Gary Markle and Robert Markle, as well as her siblings Leo, Vincent, Morris, Carl and Ambrose Hummel.
Calling will be held 2 hours prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Rita and her late husband owned and operated the Roy Markle Musical Instrument Repair Shop for many years. Rita was an artist and painter who enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida, teaching adult students about art. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family, and knitting. Mrs. Markle was also a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer''s Foundation.
