Obituary

Robert L. Black, 71, of Elkhart, passed away at 2:27 pm, Sunday, December 20, 2009 in his home surrounded by family. Robert was born on August 27, 1938 in Ludington, MI to Robert J. and Mary E. (Haynor) Black. On September 10, 1962, he married Linda L. Walters.
He is survived by his wife, Linda of Elkhart, four children, Cathy Brewer of Elkhart, Roberta (Billy) Anderson-Jones of Elkhart, Rick (Jackie) Black, Sr., of Cassopolis, and Loretta (Dan) Coulahan of Elkhart, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his step-father, Ray Grams of Ludington, MI, five brothers, Gene Grams of Grand Rapids, MI, Gary Grams of Ludington, MI, Gail Grams of Ann Arbor, MI, Thomas Black of Yoder, IN and Stuart Black of Ft. Wayne and five sisters, Marcia Sparkman, Joan Raza, Connie Rothgeb, Barbara Parnin, and Donna Struver, all of Ft. Wayne. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Phyllis Black and great grandson, Preston Lee.
Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Georgie Boy for 30 years before his retirement in 2002. He was a lifetime member of the Elkhart D.A.V. Chapter 19 and a member of the American Legion Post 143 of Bristol, IN. He will be remembered for his love of woodworking, golf and writing poems. He was an avid Michigan fan. Pepaw was dearly loved by his friends and family and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola.
